Well it looks like many people have beaten me to it. aeiou is incorrect as he has taken 15740 as being 100%. However, to do less key presses on a calculator you could do :-

15740/10372 = 1.5175 or 151.75%. Since 100% is represented by 10372, the remaining 51.75% must be the percentage increase. Clever huh!

15740 - 10372 = 5368 increase.

15740 = 100%
1 = 100/15740
Increase = 100/15740 x 5368 = 34.104%

(15740-10732)/10372 *100%
Explanation: You're finding out the increase on the old salary of course, and the increase in value is (15740-10372), so divide the second value by the first, and you get the value of what fraction the increase is, of the former salary ; when you mul;tiply this by 100, you get the increase percent.

Actual: 15740
Old: 10372
Difference: 5368
Percentage: 34.10
15740 - 10372 = 5368

15740==> 100%
5368 ==> inc
Crossing:
increase = (Difference x %) : Actual
inc = (5368 x 100) : 15740
inc = 34.10%
Answer: From 15740 to 10372 increased of 34.10%. That's equal to 5368.

Formula is:

(b-a)/a

So the increase is (15740-10372)/10372 = 0.518 = 52.8% increase

Hope this helps!
