Michael Jackson invented moonwalk, don't worry about that. He brought it out when singing Billy Jean in Motown 25. It shocked the world.
People who think he had choreographers or whatever- no dice. He is a true genius of dance. I saw a doco on him. He used to train 5 hours solid and intensely everyday- to get every move absolutely perfect. It looks so smooth, but the truth is he has done every move and link of moves a million times by himself in training. His secret is the dancing. He mad up the moonwalk, due to all that training, he stumbled on it- he is also very imaginative in terms of new moves.
How to do it
Ok- you know you can do it on the spot right?! It is kind of an illusion
With both feet together lift you left heel and whilst keeping your left foot still drag your right foot, flat against the floor backwards. Once its reached about a foot backwards swap so that your right heel is up and your left foot is flat ready to slide past your right foot and then keep alternating.
It looks like you are sliding backwards. Or it can look like you are sliding on the spot if you just do it on the spot. But I dont have to tell you that

No tips. But there was a similar dance back in the 20's or 30's called the Cake Walk, which is very similar to the Moonwalk. A friend and I were having a drink at a place in Omaha and the manager (cool OLD guy) showed us that he did the Moonwalk before MJ. Told us about the Cake Walk, and then proceeded to demonstrate. Nice way to spend a Friday afternoon.

Yes. Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong started moonwalking in 1969.
I can give you one tip. Don't do it on a bar at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress if you've had too much to drink, or you'll get a trespass warning.

He got the idea for the moonwalk watching kids dance on the streets but he made it his own! Just watch videos of him moonwalking in slow motion and really watch his feet you will see how he does it!

i think he invented it. just slide your foot backwards and end it with you standing on the ball of your foot - keep doing that switching feet and do it fast and then you'll be walkin on the moon!
