I doubt that it does improve it in a direct way, but the fact that it is there means that someone stops to think about women's lives. That in itself might be a worthwhile and progressive thing. Acknowledgement is a way to show honour to another.

I don't know how far women's day improves a woman's life but it surely is a day when woman can be assured of being given a queen's treatment. When she can be treated to goodies, to a host of pampering and above all a day when she can make her whims and fancies come true. There are different women's day programs organized on this day that surely can act as a great booster to a woman's confidence as it helps her to analyse and realize what potential she is born with and live with pride for the rest of the year.

I don't believe "woman's day" or anybody else's day serves any good at all. Days set aside for people are supposed to give us a time to reflect on the good and the accomplishments of that person or people. Unfortunately our society (for the most part) already has it's mind made up and isn't open to suggestions that people of other races, gender or religious persuasion have contributed to or improved our lives or accomplished great things. To me, its really sad that as a (supposedly) intelligent species find it necessary to judge others based on gender, skin color or even hair styles for that matter. The Bible says"love thy neighbor as thyself" We must not love ourselves very much.

Women's Day serves to remind men that feminists are a strong lobby group that must be countered.
