Past - It's gotta be Ted Williams

Present - Manny Ramirez
We all know what he can do with the bat, but (being a huge Manny detractor for his bad defense while he was in Cleveland) I will admit that he has actually turned himself into a pretty darn good left fielder. Yes, he makes a couple bonehead plays out there every year, but...he also has made some tremendous catches. I don't ever worry about his D anymore. He also gets rid of the ball very quicky and always throws to the correct base.

I would say he is their best all-around player right now.

Well, it depends what defines "best". Currently, I would say the best all around player is Jason Varitek. An off year last year offensively, but he's one of the best game callers in the baseball. Ask any pitcher who's worked with him. Not too many shake him off. And when they do, it's usually not with much success, see Josh Beckett. As much as Ortiz brings to the plate, he is a defensive liability. I cringe when the Sox play in an NL ballpark, when he has to play 1st for his bat. As for the past, I know the popular choice is Teddy Ballgame, but Ted's game was one sided. He couldn't have cared less for the defensive side of the game. I would have to think more along the lines of Carl Yastrzemski for past. Jeez, even Cy Young or Babe Ruth(no Harry Frazee jokes)would have to come before Ted.

Past - definitely Ted Williams, although close seconds would be Carl Yasztremski and Carlton Fisk

Present - Manny Ramirez, followed by David Ortiz and Jason Varitek

Now Jason Veritek Only because he is the best play calling catcher in baseball, and when he was out last year they did horriable i hate to say it Papi can be replace with power a great game calling cathcer and respected catcher is hard to find.

Past - Ted Williams, this part shouldn't even be open for debate.

Present - Even with his "talents" in the field, I think you have to give this to Manny. The Man Ram is arguably the best hitter in the Majors right now and has been for years.
