I have made some progress, but sometimes when we are out on a date in public, he forgets, and I have to remind him by handing him my lighter. He does not have a lighter since he is a nonsmoker. I want him to get ready to light my cigarette as soon as he sees me reaching for one.

You should light it yourself. First, you are subjecting him to 2nd hand smoke which is deadlier than 1st hand smoke (look at Dana Reeve); then you are making him do something that he obviously doesn't want to do. Be careful, you will probably lose him to one of your non-smoking friends.

Yeah, I'm a bit perplexed by this one, too.

I'm not going to give you the whole "don't smoke" spiel because you've probably heard it before--if not on this site, then everywhere else.

Anyway, is it a sign of good etiquette to light another's cigarette? Is that why you're so driven to do this? Or is it just a personal goal that you have?

Is he cool with this? If he's fine with it, just keep reminding him (privately). Tell him why you feel he needs to do it and why it's important to you. He may remember if he has a reason behind it.

Finally, I'd say that if he's going through the trouble of lighting your cigarette every time, you should do something for him by getting him a lighter. It's the least you can do.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Strangely for most, I understand WHY you would want him to light it for you. My husband would light mine for me sometimes, and I always got the same feeling I get when a guy opens my door for me. It's an old fashion thing, I guess.

The problem is, it's gonna be hard to train him to do that since he is a non smoker. If you found a smoker, it would be rather easy, you leave with him and leave your lighter at home, and he, being a smoker would light it with his lighter..

I used to do this to meet a guy, in fact, that's how I met my husband!

I don't think you should to try to "train" him, hun... but if you are set on this: ask him to hold on to your lighter for you before you leave the house, and then he will have it with him when you pull out your ciggie.

If he doesn't get the hint while you are searching for your ciggies, put it to your lips (keep your fingers on it) and look at him and wait, he'll figure it out.

Just keep politely asking him to light you. Hopefully, he'll go out a buy a lighter so that he can automatically light you each and every time.

You cannot train your boyfriend. He would have to want to light your cigarette. If he forgets, then lightit yourself, no big deal.

Your boyfriend is not a dog!! You can not train him to do anything!! Light your own cig. if you want to smoke!! It is not that hard!! I can not stand when girls treat their boyfriends like slaves!!! You are very selfish!!! Do you want him to come wipe your a** for u too!!! Grow up or you will be alone!!!

Y would u want him to light it? That's makes no sense. I smoke, my dude doesn't. I wouldn't want him to light it for me. In fact, he hates when I smoke around him so to solve that problem I don't. Love him too much.

find someone that smokes. If this fella loves you,he will not condone you smoking. I would not light your cigarette either. It is not polite or lady-like to smoke if he does not smoke or vice versa.
