there are many ways in which a teacher can introduce his/her lesson. some of them include story-telling, narrating an incidence, showing practicals, asking brain storming questions, or any other interesting method by which you can relate the topic that u want to teach with its application, causes, etc. the main aim of introducing a lesson is to bring students in mood to learn by evoking interest in them about the topic

Well in general my opinion is
Set the context say in physics you could start by showing why in the first place the topic is studied..eg light where is it used what people thought it was,how slowly they found more and then connect to the present view.In history get to the lessons of history what can we learn.
Teaching is 90% theatre:) yes you have to keep your audience entertained, informed, trained and in awe but you must not try.
Be yourself do not return insults and dislike.Accept and serve them.Serve them with affection. When you have the knowledge and passion to convey you can do so.
The very fact that you want to do a good job shows that you must be a good teacher.

brainstorming - write what the students already know about a topic on a board or large piece of paper, something that can be left up for them to refer to
mind maps - take one concept of the topic and expand each one
general discussion - use lots of open ended questions and be prepared to follow the lines of discussion started by the students
