Denali is absolutely a fantastic opportunity to experience North America's highest mountain, Mt. McKinley (20,320 ft.). The mountain is contained within Denali National Park and Preserve, six million acres not to be missed. As far as places to stay, things to do, there is a very extensive list.

As far as air goes, shop till you drop; from Charlotte to Anchorage or Fairbanks is going to be a long process, and not inexpensive. I ran a look see itinerary and you have 1 or 2 plane changes at a rate of between $890.00 and $1000.00 pp.

Depending on what your plan is... you may find it cheaper to book a package deal for your trip.

Included in the myriad of web sites below is one from the company I work for. We do Denali on every itinerary we provide; and we can and will work out something shorter for your needs to boot.

The National Park Service Controls all of Denali (as far as the Park itself), the current concessionaire is Denali Park Resorts. These are the folks you book all of your "Park" tours through. The outer edge of the Park is privately held by lease or grandfathered ownership.

Take some time and browse these web sites, this is not an exhaustive list, but certainly will get you in the right direction.

Do remember one thing; there is more to Alaska than just Denali!

Camai!

I live in Alaska, and am a tour guide here (for the last 29 years).

~~ I'm all for jumping right in, spontaneity is always more interesting.
And almost always leads to fabulous adventures.

~~ Denali is a borough, with four communities, Anderson, Clear, Cantwell, Healy and a number of smaller settlements.
None of these towns have huge numbers of permanent residents. Healy has the largest population of 1,000 residents.
But this borough is the gateway to Denali National Park so the scenery is mind-blowing.
This is the website for the borough.
Select a town for further info on it, including accommodations:
http://www.denaliborough.govoffice.com/

~~ The Denali Chamber of Commerce website has some helpful information, including travelling tips and maps.
You can also email them from this site for further information:

~~ I'm sorry I can't help you with the airfare question, I imagine you fly into Fairbanks.
For reliable information on this, I would talk to a travel agent and then check the net for the best price.

Ms; You can go right to Denali site and they have all the prices. Also you can go to Alaskatogo.com and they will send you a free book with every place to stay and things to do all over Alaska.
As far as things to do at Denali the park tour you have 2 choices. They offer 2 different tours. 1 is longer than the other but, both worth it. They offer rafting, hiking etc. to name afew. Right accross the street from Denali's main lodge is alittle plaza with some good deals on gifts, places to eat etc.
Also check out Greylinetours.com they offer many different package deals.
A wonderful place to visit.
No matter what anyone write Alaska is NOT EXPENSIVE.
