There is a new charity shop which has just opened in Bruges (Belgium) and I have already found a pair of Tod's sandals, a Dries van Noten skirt and a Gucci bag. They cost more than a couple of pounds but it was still a bargain. They have prices that are comparable to Zara and Mango but for designer items which are often in great nick. The best part is you can really see where your money is going and how the local charities use it which makes it fulfilling all-round.

Indeed, I have found several. The best buy was a ching lung pao from the Ching Dynasty (1644-1912) of China. It has a badge for a minister of the first rank. On Haight Street in San Francisco, I found it at a used clothing store for $250. On Upper Grant in Chiniese antique stores, such robes cost $2500 or more.

I generally, like most folk, only go in for the books, I guess.
But on the way out one day, I noticed a bright yellow 'T' shirt on the racking. Had a look and found it was a brand new Jordan Racing Crew shirt. For £2. Had it straight away. That was about 5 years ago. I've still got it, mind you, it's a bit washed out now.
Must've been £90 new.

I bought a beautiful skirt for a fiver, which I still wear regularly. My best bargains have been from Ebay - a diamond eternity ring, which we paid £310 for has been valued at £2.5k and a pair of diamond ear studs, which we paid £500 for have been valued at £3250. We did check the items out very carefully before parting with our cash though!
