You can get an international license from the AA using your UK license and will be able to drive abroad for 12 months on that.

If you're on a temporary visitor's visa, you may drive on your British driving license for the duration of your stay, regardless of the length of your stay. The normal visitor's visa is limited to 6 months but longer ones are available.

You do NOT need an HGV ("truck driver's) license to drive an RV in the US. A regular driving license is sufficient.

You do NOT need an IDP either. The IDP is only a translation of your driving license and we do speak some semblance of English on this side of the pond. (Yes, the Queen would cringe at our treatment of the language, but our version of the Old Bill will be able to read your Brit license.)

Enjoy your visit!

You can't drive a RV on a car licence anyway - I think you need a truck drivers licence. And I don't think you'd be allowed to drive for so long without taking a US test.

there seems to be a few different views here. why not contact the US Embassy in London and they will tell you exactly what you can or cannot do
