Hiya, I have used both and found that although the steam steriliser was more expensive, it is quicker and easier to use. I had a mishap with my microwave one and it ended up melting all my sons bottles and teats which could have been very dangerous! Also the steam steriliser seems to lasts for longer and can hold more bottles usually.
Good luck!

I thought the microwave one was great. The Avent one was only about £20 with 4 bottles (check the teat size though, I'm sure they are number 2) which is great considering they charge about £8 for a pack of 3 bottles!

5 mins (does vary but no more than 8) in the mocrowave and bobs yer uncle!! Its compact to so can be stuck in a cupboard when your not using it rather than the big steam ones that stand on the counter.

It still works with steam, just quicker cos its in the microwave. Some people don't seem to be understanding how the microwave ones work. You aren't microwaving the actual bottle on its own, its covered and sealed in a container with a little water in it which generates the steam to sterilise the bottles. Why comment on something you don't know?

sterilising the microwave will not harm your child. Because if that where true than we all would be bad off from warming our food in it. I have the avent microwave steriliser and it is great you have a closed container to put your bottles in and add bottled water to it and it is completely safe. I have two kids and both have had there bottles sterillised in it and they are very healthy kids and it saves a lot of time

If i were you i wouldnt go for any sterilliser!
They are a waste of money.
What you need is to go somewhere like tesco's and buy a cheap 3 tier food steamer. It does the same thing and when the baby is old enough you can use it for making up thier food.
I have had 3 steam sterillisers and 2 of them broke. 1 kept giving zapping you everytime you turned it on and the other just wouldnt work, Im quite good with fixing random electrical stuff and this was a no go. All three were Avent aswell.

I use a steam steriliser with my daughter but I'm not sure how good the microwave ones are, the steam one is so easy to use and only takes about 10 minutes to do the bottles. Goodluck with the birth :)

Microwave sterilzer in essence is a steam sterilizer. Instead of waiting to boil the water on the stove, just put the sterilizer in the microwave for 4- 5 minutes and it is done.... Avent makes a great microwave sterilizer all you add is a few ounces of water and the bottles, nipples, breast pump accessories close the lid put in the microwave and set it and it is done.
