It's so beautiful-- you will LOVE it! My favorite thing that we did when we went was an excursion to Xelha and Tulum. We spent the morning at Tulum (Mayan Ruins) and the afternoon at Xelha. You can do these things on your own if you like to be on your own when you do stuff... Xelha was wonderful and my husband and I wished that we had had more time there, as there is so much to do. Tulum is the most beautiful place I have seen, and I have traveled quite a bit. Our pictures from there are like postcards and everyone always comments about how beautiful it is there. The excursion ran us about $100 per person, but was well worth it, and I would pay even more to do it again!

See the ruins. Tulum is handy but generally very busy. The setting at Tulum is beautiful, the beach is great too. You can see the ruins and the beach easily in a morning from anywhere in the Riviera Maya. Inland about 25 minutes from Tulum is Coba, a larger/older site that is mainly unrestored. It has the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan Peninsula, and the view from the top is impressive.

Also, there is Chechen Itza the ruins there are awesome. It's a whole day away from the beach but if ruins are even remotely appealing to you , I'd say it's worth it. Also, worth seeing is Ek Balam, north of Valladolid off the same toll road (180) to Chechen Itza. There's lots of ruins in the area, from very small to very large I'd recomend taking the time to see at least one of them.

I would take a take to go shopping in Playa del Carmen, or visit Coba, Xel-ha, Xcaret or if you golf there is a variety of courses at El Camaleon Maya Koba or Mayan Riviera Maya or The Iberstar Playa Pariso, there's always horse back riding at Loma bonita Ranch, Don't forget to miss Tulum! Have fun, for a list of pricing see http://www.cancun.com to book in advance or browse pricing.

Rent a car and take a driving tour of the ruins. We went on our honeymoon. Playa del Carmen was our home base. We rented a car and drove around to Tulum, Coba, and Chitzen Itza. At Chitzen Itza we splurged on the Hacienda Chichen (right there by the ruins) and it was WELL worth it. Our room was so quaint, the grounds were awesome, and the dining there at the hotel (on an open verandah) was the best meal we'd ever had. Verrry romantic!

Tulum, or any of the ruins. They are a must see. Out of all of the places I have visited in the Caribbean area - Mexico seemed to never run out of choices of tours -even after visiting three years in a row. Depending on what you like and money you want to spend, tours vary from atv riding, horseback riding, snorkeling, etc.
Palace Resorts are wonderful and are including again this year some excursions to choice from - one being Tulum....
Have fun.
