A background in animals or criminal justice is what most organizations look for. There is also a 4 level class that is offered specifically for cruelty investigators that looks very favorable on an application. Go to this link: http://leti.missouri.edu/animal3.htm

These classes are offered all over the country and you can take them in any order (except the 4th one). The link will give you all the information you need about this class.

Take steps now to get some of that experience under your belt. Get a job as a vet tech or volunteer in a shelter. Once you take that first level course, you could probably start applying. Also, contact the organization you would like to join as a CI and find out what their requirements are. Good luck!

Go for a degree in criminal justice or attend a police academy...I think its great you want to become an ACI. Thats a tough job, but you know you are making a difference in an animals life...Giving many a second chance at a happy and healthy life...Best of luck..
