I think if everyone in Europe goes along with this EU dictatorship it will be the end of British politics as we know it. "So you wanna have a garden in your back next spring,Brussels says no more that 100 carrots,25 lettuce,50 potato plants, and you cant mention the Holocaust!

An interesting question. I am a traditional Conservative but find that Cameron and his party are, to a large degree, totally and utterly unrepresentative of what I think.
I am sure that the same applies to the Labour Party and traditional Labour voters.
The trouble is there is no real alternative. I find democracy more and more to be highly unsatisfactory, mainly because it doesn't exist. There are a range of issues dear to the minds of the British electorate like Europe, immigration and the death penalty where NO MPs represent the views of those who put them in power.
The trouble is there is little in the way of an alternative. Unfortunately Independents have little chance of getting elected except in rare cases where there is a single local issue that brings voters out in droves.
We're stuck with what we have, unfortunately, and it is a depressing political wilderness for the foreseeable future.

The concept of MPs actually representing their constituencies is laudable, but impractical in this day and age. If this eventuated there would be more elections per year than the Italians have ever managed. Its about as likely as the abolition of the farcical stock markets. A truly representative forum is practically impossible, even in the most developed civilisations.
If you could find a solution to party politics you would at least win the Nobel prize. Sadly, it is more likely that you would win the the Littlewoods Pools or Lottery.

Nice thought, but if it does go that way (which will never happen) think of how fragmenting that would be! Scores of independents running around, each representing a small section of the populace! No, the democratic systems of the world are all severely flawed, but there is currently no better way. Like someone before me said, you Will win a Nobel prize if you came up with a better system, but you have more chance of winning the National lotteries of all the continents in the same week!

The reason that there is so little difference between the main political parties is because they have been hijacked, not by freemasons, but by lawyers who have now rigged the system.
A staggering minimum of 85% of all MP's of whatever political party are lawyers, which makes their claims of wanting to have a party representative of the population, rather laughable.
When we are asked to cast our votes in an election, our only real choice is which set of lawyers would we like to have in power? A question that most of us would answer, "None."
They have rigged the system by removing the right of your local branch, of any political party, to select their own local candidate to represent the local population in parliament.
Instead they are only allowed to choose one, of two or three candidates that have been selected by national committees, and they will be 85% certain to be lawyers.
Lawyers, as we know, like to legislate to control everything with rules and regualtions and stifle growth and freedom.
The answer is of course to form a new political party where the welfare of the majority of the population is not jeopardised by self serving minorites.
A Majority Voice that represents everyone living, legally and lawfully in the country. A party that will end special considerations of this group or that and insist on equality under the law for all of our citizens.
Hmmm! Majority Voice... Would anyone care to join me?

you will enjoy the rebirth of the Conservatives. I can not believe how stupid it can get more there in the UK, journalists fighting for their survival can not deliver their professional goal. But comparing to Germany, whose parliamentary progress matured as the Social democrats and their opponents the Christian Union where surfing easy through the tough times as the Greens where a constructive opposition are not possible in the UK. This I think goes back to the 80ties as UK was becoming a commercialized Ltd. Still with UKs long liberal tradition it with find its way. The Government has to move their soldiers out from all this places in the world.

As an American, what I do not understand about your country is this: Why do you support the Royals? Do you feel that you have to live vicariously through them? At least in the USA, we can get rid of our scoundrels after a few years. You have been stuck with those overpaid welfare recipients for almost 1000.

I think independents will never gain any true power because voters are like sheep - they stick to the main parties whatever, because everyone else does.
There's no power in going alone, power is gained by forming alliances with other important politicians - not by standing solo.
