Depends what the people you are sharing are like. I've had good and bad experiences. Have made some wonderful friends but also some enemies (like the guy who used to come in late - have a sh1t and not flush the toilet so I would find floaters every morning! He also went into the bathroom fully dressed and came out two minutes later and would go to work - he was GROSS)

There are two main elements of house sharing which can go wrong. First is financial element. 2nd is living together. In my experience house sharing has worked ok so long as these things are discussed is full detail with all members of the house and that it is clear to everyone just how things are going to work i.e rules have to be made, and if you're not happy with something then you have to be man enough to say so. Some peope's ideas of what is fair just is not the same as what you may think.

REAL PAIN !
First you are all equally responsible for breakages etc - so after one of your mates holds a party and some ars**ole trashes the bathroom, the Landlord gives you all each bill for £200 quid even if you weren't there !
Also when one of your mates 'forgets' to pay his share of the rent, the landlord threatens to have you ALL evicted even if you paid up on time - so you end up 'covering' for the work shy tw*t ...
It's also a tough to get a decent nights sleep when one hearing impaired id*ot likes to play his Punk Rock cr*p at 110 decimals every Saturday midnight
Finally, when the neighbours eventually call in the Police and they find the dope in the kitchen you spend 24 hrs banged up before they decide to let you go with a 'caution' even if you volunteer to take a drug test 'cos you never touched the stuff

If you're living with people who respect each other and each other's space and belongings, and who have time for each other and socialise, it can be great. However, if you don't get on with people, are forever cleaning up after other housemates, are woken by inconsiderate behaviour, have to pick up the tab for bills they can't or won't pay, and can't stand the sight of your 'sharees' your life will be a living hell. Make sure you choose wisely!

You often don't get to choose who else lives with you which can be tricky if you're shy. On the other hand you get to make new friends. You need to be quite tolerant and also be able to say if something pisses you off- to the offender as soon as poss or it gets uncomfortable. It can be a laugh, especially if you're a bunch of students.

I think it depends on the person. I had friends who loved it. Personally it wasn't for me.
My biggest suggestion:
*Make sure you know who you are moving in with. What do you all think about visitors? Cleanliness of the house? Bills - do you all want the internet, phone, sky? Noise in the evening? Think of the things that affect your life and ask enough questions to be sure.

My experience has been ok but it can be a clash of personalities as you really don't know the people until you obviously move in. Then it's tough as you have to wait 6mths or so before you can move in.

It definitely depends what you are looking for... have had good and bad experiences! Last time, the flat I was in the male flatmate declared undying love.... was NOT reciprocated!!
Am now in a tiny flat, on my own - and I LOVE it!!
