This helps the animal inside all of us which needs to know its worth before the rest of the individual can. And easier way also is to make the individual face the aspect of death and understand that they are a strong enough individual in their own ideals to not be scared by the prospect of death. In this way you help the human part of the animal understand that their ideals and precipals can make them powerful.
