I get a lot of "backlash" with this so-called "wit" and I see a lot of it toward others who support the war as well. People say, "well, why don't YOU enlist...:" Do you people who are dishing out this response realize that not everyone is cut out for military service? May I ask, why are you here on Y!A Politics and not out there running a campaign??? Answer: because not everyone is cut out for a political career.

I support my country's mission even though I am not fighting in the war. Perhaps, had I chosen a different path in life, I would be. I struggle with some issues regarding the war, but also realize that I am a civilian and can not possibly understand all of the tactics involved (if I did, so would the enemy). I am saddened when I hear of lives lost. Likewise, I am saddened when I hear of lives lost due to non-war issues. It's the nature of the beast.

So, please don't ask me why I am not serving in the military. Rather, ask yourself, why are you so bitter?

People are dumb. You can support the mission and serve the nation in other ways.

Among other things, I'm unable to aim and shoot a rifle properly because of physical traits that developed into Multiple Sclerosis for my sister. So I found other ways to serve my country. The most important was enabling someone else to serve in the military.

I think that people who say "why don't YOU enlist" know that not everyone can serve. However, those of us with physical reasons why we can't serve are in a small minority. Same with those who have some sort of mental illness.

Most military personnel have a strong sense of duty. Some look at it this way - if you don't have a physical reason or some mental illness, that means you just don't want to serve. They consider that as having the cake and eating it too - having the benefits of living in freedom without making the sacrifices to keep it. So I can understand why they say that.

The other reason I can understand is this - unless you have been to Iraq, you are getting your information secondhand and are subject to someone's bias - whether it be liberal or conservative. The only way to get your own true picture of what's really going on is to see it with your own eyes.

I would love to see the middle classes take proportionate part in a war during my lifetime, and say "hey guys fairs fair, we'll take care of this one, you poor bastards - go have a break".
