They proclaimed they were not country musicians, and insulted country music listeners, so they can sit and spin!

I don't know what you mean by Nazi here. The Academy of Country Music is a private organization that has no ties to Nazism. The Dixie Chicks have lost much of their fan base because most country stations will not play their music because they feel Natalie's personal attack on Bush was not productive and not necessary. Then they alienated country fans by saying they were rock and roll even though their songs still sound like country. Country music is based in Nashville in the heart of the South where Bush carried every state in both 2000 and 2004. Your comment is no different from saying the Grammys are Socialist/Communist.

Bryan is right. The First Amendment guarantees your right to free speech. It does NOT guarantee that there will be no reaction to what you say.
The Dixie Chicks had the right to say what they said. The Academy also had the right to do what they did.
Besides, Dixie Chicks said they weren't country artists anyway, so why would they even want to be there?
EDIT: oohhbother, why don't you learn what you're talking about before you call anyone a Nazi fan. Here is the entire text of the First Amendment. Please enlighten me as to how this protects anyone from the reactions they receive to their free speech. I don't expect to hear from you, because you're wrong.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Absolutely. They are far above the rest of the field. This again is in response to their stance on the war and President Bush in general.
I guess the Grammies had it wrong? I do not think so. There they won five! It is the backward hicks playing the country music in the southern states which black balled their music that have it wrong. And I always thought that people in third world countries were backward.
Give me a break! I hope whoever wins realizes that not all the best talent available were not nominated.

Why does everyone think that just because you have the right to free speech that you can say whatever you like without ramifications. The Dixie Chicks angered country music fans several times. It wasn't just their comments about Bush, but also their comments about Toby Keith and other popular artists. Then they said they no longer considered themselves country music stars. Obviously the Chicks have found other fans based on their Grammy wins and album sales. Here's the rub though. They do have free speech and I support that right completely, but when an entertainer angers the fan base you cannot legitimately expect accolades from organizations like the CMA which receive their support from those same fans. So while the Chicks may have the hottest selling album in the genre it does not necessarily grant them any special rights to be recognized for that accomplishment by the fan base. In short they do not have a right to be nominated or even invited to attend any awards show. The CMA is in no way infringing on their right to free speech, or even damaging their career. While it may be petty, it is not as you put it Nazism
oohhbother: Free speech grants you the right to voice your opinions. It does not grant you protection from people taking offense to what you say. Now if someone in some way tries to physically restrain you from expressing an opinion that is a different matter. No one is saying that the Dixie Chicks cannot say whatever they like, but whenever you are in the public eye you run the risk of being alienated for your actions. Free speech is not a free pass. People like yourself amuse me because you want to defend people like the Dixie Chicks right to free expression while condemning everyone else who doesn't agree for expressing theirs. In short you have a one sided view of free speech which is unrealistic. I don't watch Susan Saradon movies because I don't like her politics and I refuse to help support her career, or provide her a platform in which to say these things. This is an economic choice on my part, but it in no way prevents her from saying whatever she likes, wherever she likes. If enough people agree with my position Susan Saradon will not be asked to do any more movies, or for that matter be invited to the Academy Awards. In doing this I am not suppressing her rights, I am just exercising mine in an acceptable manner. The Dixie Chicks situation is no different.

Why is that Nazi? Could it be that the fans of country music just don't like them or Natalie's comments? Just like they chose to voice their opinions, I guess so has the CMA. They won the HOLLYWOOD Grammy awards though, seems better suited for them anyway.

Yes, it is nazi, and little nazi fans have posted here that free speech doesn't give a person the right to not be punished for their free speech.
Except that this country was founded on the concept of freedom of expression.
So, I wonder, which political party seeks to use mob rule and corporate actions to stifle free speech? Because that is what this is.
