If you are going to get the pill you should rely on the person prescribing it to give you information.
If you start the pill on the first day of a new period contraceptive cover is immediate. It is then continuous if taken in the proper way, 21 tablet days and then 7 tablet free days. Contraceptive cover is full for the whole 28 days.

The contraceptive pill takes over your natural body cycle. You need to be on them for a short while before they are effective.
Once you have started, then they control your body cycle, ie periods. When you have taken a month's supply and stop, then your periods will start. This can be useful if you are going on holiday or honeymoon, for example, as you can continue taking the pills and you will not get your period.
But it sounds as if you need to speak to someone older, or who is on the pill. If you cannot find anyone to speak to, or cannot find anything to read on the matter, then ask to see your doctor, and ask him to explain.
(There is only so much a man can tell a woman about periods......)

You are supposed to take your pill on the first day of your period, and you are covered from that day, I know this as I have my pill packet in front of me. If you miss your pill then you should not have sexual realtions unprotected for a week, as you have broken the cycle.
It is safe to take the pilla day before your period, but why not wait the day and be protected immediately from pregnancy.
If you know your going to have sexual contact the day before your period then I would suggest you either use other forms of protection or get the morning after pill.
Hope this helps

you should take the pill on the day of your period. i think this is just standard precaution because if pills are taken and you are pregnant, it can cause an abortion. pills try to prevent pregnancy by controlling the hormones that promote and maintains a pregnancy. it is much better to take it on the first day of your period.

you should start taking the pill on the first day of your period,so you not need to take any extra contraceptives...otherise you would need to wear a condom for the next 7 days. Also make a note in your diary when you started taking the pill.
hope this helps.
p.s...being sick,or having diohrrea whilst taking the pill makes it inafective..please use extra precautions if this happens to you.

When I first started on the pill I had to wait til after I had my period. The reason was to blanace out my cycle. I would recommend talking to your dr about this to see if it's ok for you to do this and whether or not it would work.

Your ob/gyn will recommend the dosing schedule for you. It takes a full week before it is effective in preventing pregnancy, so be sure to use a back up method.

Just start taking it on the Saturday morning after / during your period.
It will not begin to take ANY affect (including pregnancy) for about a fortnight.
