a few days later it turned really really white and was hanging on by a thread. at that time it was oozing clear liquid but i thought nothing of it. yesterday i noticed that it turned yellow and when i picked at it, it exploded with yellow pus all over my hand. I decided the nail had to come off otherwise the infection would not heal. I took the nail off with my own two hands, did not hurt at all and cleaned it throughly. Should I have taken the nail off?

oh god, thats so gross, lol. but yea i reckon you totally did the right thing, the same thing happened to my friend but she took her sock off one day and her toenail stayed in her sock, lol, she screamed, it was so funny. i reckon it would have just dropped off anyway. im no doctor or owt but i reckon your doin the right thing and i would let it get some air to to help it heal faster.

You can't I'm afraid, neither can anyone else. By kicking with the shin we just lower the odds. I only ever studied proper physics in high-school but when you're sparring harder you are kicking faster and strikes tend to deflect off small hard areas rather than smash on them (Breaks still happen, just not so often) for some reason strikes with less intent seem to have more chance of catching on the elbow rather than glancing off it. My personal belief is that you simply use less roundhouse kicks above the waist when you spar harder, you save them for when your opponent doesn't look like they could block, deflect or dodge one, instead opting for low roundhouse kicks to the thighs and thrusting kicks to the torso.

I tend to agree with Sparky that there should have been pain. And now that the nail has come off, don't you think you should put some antibiotic powder on the wound and allow it to heal? Tissue Remedies (like Homeopathic Remedies) are available and Rescue Remedy is another option if you don't want antibiotics. But in any case, better to see why you don't have pain.

Sounds like it was gonna come off itself anyhow.

Are you sure it's not broken??? It's hard to tell with toes.

I'm a bit concerned that it does not hurt though, perhaps you have done some permanent nerve damage.
