Yes! More expensive than LA but not as much as NY. Easily the most expensive place in Canada. Property taxes are high too. The Benchmark price is $ 641,596...which is low if you want to live on the Westside..houses on the Westside are pushing a million and condos in Yaletown(downtown area) are sometimes even more.
All of this contributes to to cost of living in Vancouver. If you don't have a decent job in Vancouver, the challenges are much greater than in surrounding ares or other cities.
Good Luck!

A big yes! Since Vancouver has been experiencing a building boom over the last 10-15 years as well as a dramatic increase in population, the cost of housing has gone through the roof! Vancouver does not have a restriction on foreign ownership for housing so many people invest in housing from other countries. Soon word got around what an amazing investment Vancouver housing was. Now only the affluent can afford houses and condos in downtown Vancouver area. For young couples to be able to afford a house with a wee bit of yard - most have to resort to living in the farther neighbourhoods like Langley, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, etc. which are approx. 30 kms away up the valley. The cost of parking downtown is high, some compensate by using public transit, or try to find a job closer to home. Property taxes, municipal utility bills, etc. have also increased dramatically over the past few years as building assessments have increased in value, higher usage of utilities from more inhabitants, etc. So, yes, Vancouver is an expensive place to live due to a high cost of living.
Thanks,
Petra M, Vancouver

it can be expensive if you want to live right in Vancouver, but if you live out in the suburbs it's not so bad.
And if you want to rent you can find affordable places...I lived there comfortably as a renter while I was in school (so obviously had no money).
As for food, gas and all those necessities, they are no more expensive than anywhere else.
But really, it's all relative. I grew up on the west coast so I'm used to expensive housing, and you just adjust and go with it. Most people can find a way to buy a house.

Its relative to what youre looking for. If you want to buy a place its astronomical but like any so called expensive city once you get there you can find tons of apts, basement suites and the like all over in the Eastside mostly that tens of thousands live in that arent that bad. Sharing is the way to go. Keep looking around for cheap restaurants (lots in Chinatown). Vancouver has the price range from dirt cheap to big bucks but its a little harder to find price range in the middle. Comparable to Toronto or Calgary.

Vancouver is probably the second most expensive city in Canada. But while it is expensive to establish yourself there - real estate has gone through the roof - day to day living isn't that bad. It's probably the most exciting city in Canada, not only for its natural beauty but for the many activities and opportunities it offers.

in spite of the actuality that it relies upon each and anybody's situation, Vancouver is definitely getting extra costly. Housing value went up lots! Even living in a hood will value you $six hundred a month on easy. For downtown, relies upon on which section, starts at $800 a month on easy. you will not get dissimilar area in downtown, besides the undeniable fact that it is going to likely be handy with downtown centers in case you be attentive to what i'm asserting. Public transit is getting genuine undesirable now, so is the site visitors. even although the gas ain't affordable not extra, the quantity of autos for the time of top hours are nonetheless starting to be, it extremely is something that i don't comprehend. the government could desire to truly examine on the inhabitants boost and according to danger boost low value housing projects. different than those issues, Vancouver is a assorted city with sturdy air, sparkling mountains and sparkling oceans.
