I have a friend who is pro-choice, not just in the case of rapes etc but basically as a form of birth control, just because you didn't use protection and don't want to be pregnant. The same girl is actively involved in organizing events to make people aware of the cruelty of using animals for food and clothing.

I'm not in any way trying to change her views, but I just wondered if this struck anyone else as odd...that some people see an animal's life as too valuable to kill but a human life not. The point of her vegetarianism is to make the statement that "animal life is as important as human life," she says, but isn't the statement more like, "animal life is more important than human life," if it's okay to abort babies but not eat chickens or eggs? I know some people feel that a fetus isn't a "person" yet, but it's undeniably human (can't be described as any other species!).

Foxy...the reason I'm not bringing this up to her is that I don't want to change her views. She has the right to believe whatever she wants. I was just wondering if other people shared her beliefs or if it was as contradictory as I thought.

As far as the embryo thing...um, she doesn't eat CHICKEN embryos because it's "cruel". Nevermind the fact that the eggs we eat aren't fertilized and would never come to life if left to their own devices. Plus, an unborn human is only considered an embryo until the 10th week of gestation. Then it's a fetus. And she even believes in partial birth abortion if it takes the "mother" that long to make up her mind. So yes, I have thought this through with an open mind and still came to the conclusion that it was contradictory. Thanks for answering, though!

In this day and age of readily available contraception I think that abortion as form of birth control is NOT OK. However, if you think about it, would you want a person who is that irresponsible to be a parent? There are, unfortunately, legitimate medical problems that are so severe (lethal) that a medical abortion is justified, but these are rare.

You have a point here. The animal rights people seem to think that animals are more important than human beings and forget that human beings are also animals - the "human animal".

There is another thing going on that is common to many groups - the belief system that "I'm right and you are wrong so you HAVE to go along with my way of thinking". This kind of thinking SCARES me and if it doesn't scare other people as well it should - this is how Adolph Hitler got his start.

Abortion solely as a birth control method is NOT cool, and neither is telling me what I can or can not eat. The animal rights activists are operating under the idea that there is no cruelty in nature, imho, and if anybody opens their eyes they will see that this is nonsense - nature sometimes is vicious - earthquakes, tornadoes, plagues, famines - nature is NOT always benevolent. Vegetarianism IS better for your over all health, but to be FORCED into it because of somebody else's beliefs is also NOT COOL. Excellent question!

Yeh look like a babeh, get in mah belleeh!....... LOLOLOLOL!!!!
FUNNEE!!!

You are absolutely right, this view is inconsistent and hypocritical. ALL life is sacred, especially the unborn. Now, if pro-abortionists who are also pro-animal rights heard about an animal getting an abortion, they'd throw a hissie fit. Gimme a break!

If one is gonna talk the talk, let 'em walk the walk all the way.

EDIT: To all the naysayers of veg'anism, read up on it first. A plant based diet provides all the nutrients that the human body needs. Physiologically, we're designed to be herbivores, not omnivores, and certainly not carnivores. Oh yes, most people are omnivores, but no one is physiologically designed for it. Meat and dairy and eggs get us sick, bottom line.

Cancer... heart disease... diabetes... obesity... hypertension... acne... impotence (yes guys, IMPOTENCE)... you name it, animal food is linked to it.

She seems to be very confused ! I think I would rather be friends with some one who would eat a cheeseburger while protesting abortion as a form of birth control. I for my self would never have an abortion but I believe each person has the right to choose what is right for them but I do not condone repeated abortions . You should learn from your passed deeds.

Odd maybe, but then again don't we all have qualities within ourselves that other people would consider to be odd? What pro-life people don't seem to understand is that there is plenty of medical evidence that states an embryo is not really alive. That a baby is not really considered alive until it develops into a fetus. In that case your argument on murder human vs. animal is null and void. It really all depends on your point of view, and no one really should be judged on that. I mean what makes your point "right."

well we have to eat meat are body's need protein from it as well as eggs if we all ate veg there just wouldn't be enough to go round simple as that, and vegetarian isn't as healthy as people believe by the way most end up take supplements and lets face it in the wild you not gonna find a pot of vitamins are you? i believe if you have a view on things don't press it on others let people choose for themselves what they want don't speak for them, i believe if you doing a organization type thing then they crave or want power.

Yes, her beliefs seem to contradict each other. Perhaps over time, she will see that and grow out of it.
