i'm a nebraska native...
the only town worth living in by choice is the capitol: LINCOLN...
it's big (275,000) but does not have the big town vibe... it has everything a big city should have, but has the small town vibe that nebraska just generally has... omaha is nasty, and trying to be a big town when it's really not... stear clear of any kind of town in the east near the missouri river....
the further west you go, the more rural it gets.. the middle of nebraska is corn country.. grand island (pop. 45,000) is the third largest city in the state.... the west is ranch country with cattle....
there are several small towns within 30 minutes of lincoln that are great to raise families in.. they're super slow communities with tight bonds.. friendly people and faves.. and it's really close to lincoln if you get the urge to go to a play, concert, see a football game, shopping, etc....
try looking into crete, seward, waverly...
