Advantages
- advances in technology (for example, the invention of disposable cyanoacrylate sprays (superglue) in the Vietnamese war, to literally glue people's skin back together, and to prevent the deaths of men who had open wounds and would probably bleed to death before reaching the army hospitals
- a bit of a propagandic/patriotic-sounding advantage - the development of the identities of nations. Before the First World War, Australia was seen as an untried and untested young country, however, during Gallipoli, our soldiers showed courage, endurance and resourcefulness (as well as a lack of respect for authority and formalities). Although we were eventually defeated at Gallipoli, Australia still commemorates ANZAC day, the day that our troops landed there and began battle, and many people regard it as our own "baptism of fire". Every year, Australians still make the pilgrimage to Gallipoli to salute our fallen. Many Australian families have stories to tell about relatives in the war, and a sense of pride to go with it.
- appreciation of life
- sometimes war is considered the only way to end a growing conflict and instability. For example, the First World War was triggered by the assassination of the Crown Prince (and his wife) of a small European country, however many larger countries became involved and 'took sides' as a way to confront other nations about growing unrest. The major groups in World War One were the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance, and they used the war to prevent one another from becoming too strong.
Disadvantages - loss of innocent life, damage done socially
- the economic ruin of countries
- the political ruin of countries - for example, Germany after the First World War. Was ruined financially, as Germany was forced to sign the Treaty of Versailles, which stated that Germany was to blame for the war, stated that Germany would have to pay 6600 million pounds in reparations, gave away a large percentage of Germany's land and industry. This caused political unrest in Germany, as Germany's traditional monarch, the Kaiser, had abdicated as a condition of peace, and the new government, the Weimar Republic, was blamed for the damage that the Treaty of Versailles did to the nation. Later, the people of Germany became so disillusioned with the Weimar Republic that they voted Hitler's Nazi Party into power, which caused even more damage.

War is one of the biggest economic factors around in the world. (second only to the food industry) Billions upon billions of $ are made due to war. If it isn't through the making and selling of weapons than through the huge contracts for the reconstruction of the destroyed land. Even the loss of life is a positive economic factor (though traffic still is killer number one)..... stomach-turner if I ever heard one.
As long as the war is not in 'your neighborhood' you can make a bundle.
Beside the economics.....war is all bad.
