We have recently bought a baby angora rabbit and recently she seems to be having a lot of sneezing fits. Is this a reaction to the straw in her bed or something else? Or is it something we need to get checked out at the vet's?

Sneezing in rabbits can be as normal as sneezing in people. Dusty straw/bedding/hay will make them sneeze. As in people it can also be infectious. A mucoid discharge from the nose and eyes would be most indicative. Occasionally they can sniff hair, dirt or other foreign material into their nose and this causes ongoing irritation. Dental disease can also cause sneezing. In short if you rabbit is well, eating and happy and does not have obvious nasal discharge try changing the bedding to something that is unlikely to be dusty like fresh grass. If the sneezing continues see your veterinarian then. If the is any sign of inflammation or discharge or rabbit appears unwell see your vet sooner. Good luck

When i had rabbits they all had sneezing fits 2. I took them to the vets but was told that there was nothing wrong with them. I assume that it was just something in the straw. Maybe get her checked just to be sure but from my experience it is quite normal!

If the rabbit has a white or colored discharge from the nose when she sneezes or you notice her front paws or legs getting matted from wiping her face, I'd have a vet check her. There is an illness called snuffles that rabbit get, that can progress quickly into something that can kill them.
I'd pick her up and put my ear to her side and listen for wheezing. If you hear any rattle or wheeze, I'd get her checked.
Otherwise, I'd check to see if she's reacting to a new liter, new straw, something different in her cage or your room.

When rabbits sneeze it is usually one of 2 things. It could be an allergy to dust and straw or it could be pasteurella, an infection that requires medicine from a vet. Take your bunny to a good exotic veterinarian to see if is pasteurella. We have an older bunny who has chronic pasteurella, but he gets medicine to help control it.

It could be a reaction to the straw if it is dusty or moldy. If it lasts more than a day or two it's probably not that but probably a cold and you should see your vet about the cold.
