Both my grandparents are millionaires and my sisters boyfriend is a mad millionaire.
My one grandfather grew up on a farm with 12 brothers and sisters. He put himself through high school (which meant he had to live with a foster family because it was so far away from his farm). He started at the bottom of Shell gas company and ended up being the person that sets the prices for all of Canada. Besides that he saved, learned to invest and invested really well. He is now a multi-millionaire, owns a few houses that he rents out and lives in a small townhouse in a retirement complex. Retired now, he volunteers his time to give investment advice to retired seniors.
My other grandfather grew up really poor and worked as a government worker for zoning or something unimportant. He is a millionaire because of his frugleness.
Both of my grandparents don't look like millionaires, aren't treated differently and earn respect based on their knowledge.
My sisters boyfriend, on the other hand, is treated really differently. He flaunts his money, drives to highschool in his mercedes or H2, and likes to drop a grand on dinner for his buddies. He is treated like nothing but a bag of money by most people and he hates it. I think it is his own fault for showing off so much though. Anyways, I think there is a difference as well, because his parents are millionaires and he inherited 30 million this year from his dead grandfather. Besides that he has invested wisely by opening up A&F, Victoria Secret, etc, all of which have done well.
In the end, only people who flaunt their money look like they are rich. Besides that, they could be any of us...

Millionaires do not have a tattoo on their forehead. They generally do not wander about with an 8 x 10 glossy of their net worth statement. Therefore, people do not treat them any differently than they'd treat someone with a net worth of $50.
Anyone can be a millionaire - it isn't what you make, it's what you spend and what you save.
Life is hard no matter what you have - how much or how little. Everything has its consequences and responsibilities.

I am not a millionaire but do know one-a relative. They became a millionaire by inheriting money from other relatives that did nothing with their lives but work and save....no new cars, no vacations. They didn't buy clothes unless they needed them-no fancy jewelry or new furniture.
The new millionaire is not much different except that she does on occasion share with her children and grandchildren...but otherwise, besides buying a new car and having their kitchen redone, they've banked the rest...

Define millionaire. Do you mean that you make $1M per year or is your net worth $1M? There are hundreds of thousands of people that have a net worth of $1M. They could be your neighbors. They live frugally so they can retire wealthy.
