Probably not a bad idea, actually. If I'm right, then your parents find a suitable partner for you and you still have the right to refuse, so it is not obligatory. And as your parents know you best of all, your true character and your strengths and weaknesses - and also as most parents really only want the best for their children - then I'm sure most parents would scrutinise a prospective suitor and only put forward someone that they felt would be suitable.
My opinion is that FRIENDSHIP is the single most important ingredient in any relationship, and that from that love can grow, which it often does. However, if you start a relationship with love or lust then, unless you really work at it, it's hard work to nurture and create a friendship. So friends first, love second. And with that in mind, arranged marriages put together compatible people for friendship so - yes - they are probably more successful in creating love and a stable marriage.

As a parent myself (even though the kids are now only 5 and 8 years old), i always want the best for my children.

If I know that my son/daughter are going to marry an idiot, should i agree ?? Do you agree, if your offspring want to marry a known useless guy/gal ?

Don't take me wrong on this : I am not going to control the life of my children, but as a parent, a have the responsibilities to make sure that his/her partner are the most suited for them.

I for myself have no problems with arranged marriage, AS LONG AS the two of them accept each other. If the one says yes and the other says no, then better not. The marriage-aspirant must have the RIGHT to give his/her opinion as well.

People should make a difference between ARRANGED marriage and a FORCED marriage. They are not the same.

Hope it helps.

I think couples in arranged marriages will try harder to work through the bad times because they'll b used to it because they've had to work on gettin closer and learning ab one another after the marraige has taken place. I actually think i read somewhere that arranged marriages have a lower divorce rate than others anyways x x x

It has its own advantages compared to love marriage. In love marriage, all the love is made before while in arraged marriages it is made after marriage. Break downs and differences amongst the spouses are more or less the same.

Well i personally would not like it for myself but i have no problem with other people having arranged marriages. I know a few people that have had them and they are all very happy.

I wish they were legal here, because I have somebody WONDERFUL in mind for my daughter! LOL!

Seriously though, they're wrong. Everybody should be free to decide whether or not they want to get married and who they want to marry. THEY are the ones who have to live with their spouse!

i really think that mariage is based on love and i cannot imagine a person living the rest of his life with someone he barely even knows.. It's ridiculous!!!! You get maried for yourself and the person you love not for the society
