Yes they do. Sometimes there is an exception with IMAX or some specialty movies. They'll run the first 20 minutes and if nobody shows they'll turn it off and just rewind it. It doesn't matter if anyone necessarily buys a ticket either, it could just be some theatre hoppers, but I don't like hopping in if no one is in there.

some places do some don't i worked for a theather house here in san antonio once and we would show the film with no one buying a ticket a night but during the day we would not run it

I'm pretty sure they don't. I was at a movie once that had only me and my friend viewing it, the cinema person came in and made sure we were there otherwise I think he was going to turn off the movie

I think they probably do, I took my daughter to see The Chronicles of Narnia, we were the only ones there, bit spooky though when the attendant opens the door with a torch.

They do have to show it, but if nobody turns up then it's unlikely to stay on for a second week.
