Compromise: the act of sacrificing something for gaining something more important. Usually we compromise with others for the benefit of both.

Adjust: the act of sacrificing something without an expectation of gaining something else but just to make others happy. Usually we adjust ourselves for the benefit of others.

So the person who adjust himself is more respectable than who compromise with others.

To adjust you have to change. To compromise you have to "give" a litte more or less. Eg. When you get married you will start to share financial obligations. You will now adjust or change the way you spend, your finances will not be the same. Also when you get married you will have to share certain things, like the TV - you will now have to compromise by watching less of what you want to watch and a little more of what your wife want to watch. Its not a change, just a little give and take. Not a total change like your finances. Hope that helps!

In terms of a relationship an adjustment would be if you change a habit/characteristic of yours to suit the other person in the relationship, without them having to change or give up anything in return .

A compromise on the other hand would be where both parties in the relationship decide to give in a little to make the other happy.

I hope this helps.

In my opinion you adjust when you take something and loose something and you compromise when you mostly sacrifice and bit recieve
