Upgrade to atleast 512MB - 1GB of memory, there's your bottleneck not the CPU.

it all depends on the motherboard of your computer. most new processors will only work with the newest motherboards now... and if your computer is old, most likely you won't be able to upgrade the processor.

I'm not sure what you mean by 1.7 processor. If your computer has 1.7GHz processor then this should be fine. Your RAM though is very very small. If your running WinXP I would recommend at least 512MB of RAM to get satisfying results.

Upgrading your Ram is very EASY and cheaper than upgrading your processor. Get 1 GB of RAM and your computer shoud zoom

You might be able to upgrade your processor. The determining factor would be your motherboard. However, with only 128mb of RAM, you should defiantly install more RAM. That may be the only speed boost you need, and it's certainly cheaper, and easier.

My first reaction is the same as whatdoitypehere's and that is to recognize that your RAM is awfully low and I would want to go in and add some RAM to give your computer some more speed. It's easy to install, and cheaper, so, even if you're wrong (which I don't think we are), you're not out anything to speak of. God Bless you.

128MB of RAM is really low. Most computers nowadays run on 512MB or more. I say upgrade your RAM to at least 512MB 1GB would be better. You will see a dramatic change in your computer's performance instantaneously.

A computer's speed is determined not only processor speed, but also the amount of RAM you have, amount of hard disk space left, front side bus, speed of hard disk (in terms of RPM, the faster, the better), how fragmented your hard disk is.

Software factors include how many programs are loaded on startup, whether you have any malware.

To improve it, you will have to increase the amount of RAM that you have. If you are low on hard disk space, remove unnecessary programs, such as games. Important documents can be sent to your email account ( such as Yahoo Mail, Hotmail or Gmail, their storage space is large ) and used it as your temporary hard disk.

If it has been years since you last defragment it, it's also time to defragment your hard disk.

Checking for malware is also important.

Clean your system by deleting programs no longer used, defragmenting your hard drive, closing and disabling unnecessary programs, scanning for viruses and spyware and one mainly overlooked item, dust the inside of your case, using canned air only. Adding extra memory will also help.
