Why is there still so much racism in America? Has there been any progress made over the years. I cannot believe the statements of so many on yahoo questions and answers. I am a Canadian and we have a much lower crime rate and acceptance of cultures and try to live at peace. I do not understand why in the USA there is so much hatred.

There are alot of good people but there are alot of bigots x KKK supporters sadly enough. Does it have to do with a larger population of the poor ?

You are right there is racism in Canada as well. I just lost it from reading racist comments from people on here. And you are also correct on those people being protected by the computer so they tend to get alot more gutsy. I just hate injustice but it is everywhere.

The racism really isn't that prevalent except in the lower class of individuals. People like that are always looking for someone to blame their problems on, and race is handy. I do know for a fact that there are racist groups in Canada, but one reason the problem isn't so bad statistically is the lower population density in Canada. Most of us in the US who are educated and well socialized aren't racist, and those who are are usually insane freaks who use uneducated people to get their dirty work done for them. But for the vast majority, racism isn't a problem, and even if people have their residual thoughts about it, they don't force it upon their children because they want them to be able to succeed in this world the way it is now. And remember one thing; there are alot of people to whom communicating on the internet is their only outlet, especially those in rural areas with not much progress. They like being anonymous, and may even make some of their statements simply for shock value.

I agree with you
America is not the old America because crime rates increased and racism still continues to black colored people .How sad they are our bros and sisters . And I want to go to Canada for my Mba degree it is far better to live in Canada then America but I just wonder the oil prices . : Because I want to drive fast motorcycle there and I hate paying too much money for oil . :: : .. : .. :: . . :. . I am living in Turkey by the way . I love my country. . .But as many other European countries we pay too much money for oil . . . . .
So it is not a good thing to spend too much money for oil . World should start to use another thing as a source of energy to run the engine of powerful cars. We have a car that is for fuel economy and it is 75 hp s I miss over 100 horsepower cars . But we have nothing to do .I hope hydrogen cars will be common in the next 5-8 years . Otherwise we are still continue to pay high prices for oil sadly and try to use hybrid cars which is so sad toooooooo but of course better than using a whole oil power car.

I think it's really overly-publiscized to look worse than it is. I live in what you would probably consider a poorer, less-educated state...Alabama, in a small town even, and I have only met a very few people who honestly discriminated against other people due to color. There have been no hate crimes in my area, no gangs, no KKK (I think the KKK is dead for the most part...it really exists mostly in the media and the movies). I think it's one of those things people assume about the American south, like they assume we play banjos and are illiterate. I'm sure there are people who discriminate, but not like you see on TV and in movies. Ignorance is no longer rampant like it once was.

Yes, as Canadians we do have a much lower crime rate, etc. But don't kid yourself, racism is at work here. We're (as a whole) just not as blatant about it. Also it seems to exist more in the poorer, less educated states.

I think America still has so much racism because only about 50 years has passed since the big civil rights era. It's still fresh in everyone's mind.
Also because everyone is so used to it being around it's second nature.
But there has been SOME progress, like publicly. Blacks can go where they want, sit where they want, eat where they want and marry who they want.
It wasn't like that in the 50's.

A lot of us are mentally lazy thats why. Its easier to be a slob and just say and do whatever we feel like then do the hard things like watching what we say and being compassinate. Theres a lot of mentally weak people down here in the states.

The KKK is probably due to the population of the poor. but I would be more bothered about the racist foreign policies of the US.
