From 3am to 6am EVERY morning my daughter moves to the side of her cot (in her sleep) and her head bangs against the side of the cot. It doesn't wake her, but it does wake me. Virtually every half hour I am moving her back into the centre!. I do not want to use 'bumpers'. She currently sleeps in a 'grobag'. Any Suggestions? HELP PLESE!

Cot Bumpers are not recomended in the UK until 1 years of age. SIDS advice also recomends this. Bumpers can restrict airflow to the baby. Should her face be against the side of the cot, against the bumpers - it is the same as a blanket going over her face. It is not a risk I want to take.

You could always try one of these. The rolls are round the body, under the arms and well away from the head / face

I guess things are done differently over there compared to the US. I never used a grobag and I had to look it up to see what it was. That is the most stupid contramption I have ever seen. Talk about wasting money. I also had to look up and see what a cot was. It looks just like a crib here in the U.S. I used bumpers on my daughter's crib and never had a problem. I did make sure that they were fastened correctly. I would imagine that if you didn't want to use bumpers you could wrap a towel along the cot (crib) to cushion the blow to the head a little. I wish you luck with your little baby girl!

The only solution is bumpers but if your intent on following all the advice that handed to you then there is nothing else you can use.

Do not use pillows - thats worse than using bumpers!!!

As long as the bumper is only around one end of the bed and tied securly then you've done all you can.

These grow bags are so blinking stupid. They restrict the baby and I bet in a few years time the 'experts' will be telling us not to use them as they increase the risk of SIDS. How is a baby meant to cool itself down when it has the equivelent of a 5 tog duvet strapped to it?

If your worried about her kicking covers of get fleecy sleep suits.

The truth is no one knows what causes SIDS they just co bmplie some facts and decide this week we should bad bumpers or never let baby sleep on its side.

Poor you! My 20 week old sleeps on his side in his grobag with a cotton blanket tightly rolled up behind him against the side of the cot so he's already against it but with some protection. He's really active and has never managed to get at it, and I am very careful/paranoid about SIDS, my sister died from it. I hope you find a solution!

You can actually buy folding bed rails, padded to ensure the safety, I do understand why u don't want to use bumpers but u really need to place some kind of padding against the sides of her cot. Try taking her out of the grow bag, maybe she feels uncomfortable at night and wants to move her legs, can u imagine being put in a grow bag to sleep in! Not nice and very uncomfortable I should imagine. Also maybe she would be better in a crib for the time being!

i can't remember for the life of me what they're called, but its basically 2 hollow rolls connected by a flat piece of fabric. the rolls go either side of baby they're big enuf 4 baby 2 wear a grobag with it n give em a lil room to move. they've been tested and approved by SIDS and well...i think they're abt £20 or summat like that n i believe mothercare do 'em. i've got a bumper on my cot, but thats only cuz its a HUGE thing, literally the size of my bed for my baby!! lol. blaim the grandparents....

if not there's another thing on the market, dont gat how it works, but its a teddy lying on its side in a kinda pj suit. i kno they sell that in mothercare, just don't get how it stops baby from wiggling around!

Try and put blankets each side of her so that she can't move from side to side but this will be very restrictive and she may not sleep as well. Why do you not want to use bumpers? This prevents them bashing their heads and still allows them the ability of sleeping unrestricted.

But try the blankets it does work

What?your baby sleeps in a cot?
Why don't you use bumpers...is a cot the same as a crib where you live? your baby sleeps in some kind of bag? there must be a language barrier...I don't understand treating a baby like that.

Good God ,don't use pillows!!!! my baby sister sufficated with pillows!!!!
