For me, Australia is a country. Australia, New Zealand, and other islands make Oceania, a continent.
Furthermore an island can be a country: Trinidad and Tobago, Madagascar, England, New Zealand and of course Australia itself. And a group of island could be a country as well such as the Philippines or Malaysia.

Australia is a Country and the main continental Land mass of Oceania/Australasia. All continents have outlying islands, Oceania/Australasia just has more than most.

By the way rdenig_male Australia and New Zealand are nowhere near as far apart as Europe and America (1.400 miles between Australia and New Zealand, over 3000 between Europe and England)

Australia and New Zealand are not a continent - they are as far apart as Europe and America. Australia is a continent on its own. And yes, an island or group of islands can be a country. England is not an island, however, it is part of an island containing another country and principality. This question - apart from the misconception about Oceania - does seem to express the obvious.

I think Australia is one of the 7th continent which situated south east of the globe of the world . It has tropical, sub-tropical and mediteranean type of climate. It has also indigenous plants and animals such as eculaptus tree and kangaroo. It also categorized under the developed nation because of an industrial continent and the GDP is high. Most of the peoples are foreigners that comes from British and settled there during the 17th and 18th centures. But that does not mean that there are not indigenious people as well as other peoples come from Asia , Africa , Europe or America.
