Any advice, I find that I am waking up around 4am each morning and cannot get back to sleep, it is not due to noise or any other disturbance, just seems to be a natural thing, have tried going for a long walk before going to bed and going to bed later in the evenings but it makes no difference.

Please, do your long walk at least two hours or more before you go to bed. Exercise can cause lack of sleep. Also, please start going to bed at the time you used to. Do you find yourself waking more than once in the night? For instance, just for a few seconds, to turn over, get comfy again? Please see your dr. about having a sleep study done on you. It involves staying in a hospital room for a night, that is set up sort of like an inexpensive motel room. They will have a resipatory therapist watching you on a computer (from another room) and a small microphone to listen to you too. They will be watching and listening to see how you sleep, if you snore, etc. I wish you the best. Take care.

My boyfriend has similar problems, although not as early as 4am. Sometimes he needs to take some sleeping pills. Go to your doctor and explain the problem. 4am is a bit too early. Having said that I would love to be able to sleep so little, I have the opposite problem (I have narcolepsy, which means I need a lot of sleep - so I take medication to stay awake). I would do so many things in my life if I didn't need a lot of sleep. I never understand people who find not being able to sleep a problem, but then again, I have never experienced this. Good luck!

Are you living beyond your means or have other worries that don't seem important during your waking hours when you're busy, if you have a bed partner just coory in, but not being able to get back to sleep would worry me.

you need to somehow break this waking at 4am pattern - i guess that you may be worring in the back of your mind about it each night when you go to bed, try herbal pillow, malted milk drinks, relaxing before bedtime nothing stressful or strenuous try a different bedtime routine (in the home) dont go walking wind down with a book in a softly lit room before you go to bed
