The sound the cistern makes is like a long groan .This can happen straight after the flush or even about 20 minutes later.Sometimes it sounds like it's topping up with a little more water too.

The working parts are plastic and are at a guess, no more than 10 years old.

Release of the constipation flush.Toilets like ourselves after to much intake of badness into our selves, need to clear. For us (humans)usually it is Monday mornings(after a good weekends gut
full)For toilets it is usually Tuesday(afternoon)after it gets over the initial shock.Or if human over indulgence has exceeded weekend
expectancy.Wednesday.Be careful of backfires.

Inside the cistern there should be a plastic adjuster near the top of water inlet. this should be adjusted to stop any movement of the ball valve arm.The groan is the ball valve arm trembling when it is filling and this plastic steady post is there to prevent this happening. Just check and see if it can be adjusted, or turn the water pressure down a bit and see if that is enough to stop it.

your toilet is running. it should not take 20 mins for your tank to fill up. the sound is comming from the old fill valve. all the inturnal workings of the toilet will cost about $20 to replace and i thank they are available at wal-mart with instructions on the back on how to do it.
