Rain by itself isn't a problem - it's the lightning you need to worry about. (And not the thunder - that's just the noise made by lightning. It's harmless.)
If your laptop isn't plugged into the wall or a router or a phone line during a lightning storm, you should be fine. Compute away. However, if you are plugged in, you run the risk of an electrical surge frying the electronics.
In fact, if the thunder is loud (indicating the lightning is close), you may want to unplug certainly electronic devices in the house for the duration, just to be safe. Surge protectors can help, but they won't help much if there's a direct strike to your property - lightning carries just too much current.
Lightning storms rarely last long, so this shouldn't be a big problem.

You can use your laptop when there is raining outside but you cannot use it when it is thundering outside because the thunder will burn your socket. But you can use your laptop without the charger. I have the experience, that's why I tell to you. Last year I was using my laptop when it is thundering outside. Suddenly my laptop turn off automatically. When I send my laptop to the company they said that my computer has damaged because of the thunder. Is that clear for you?

There is potential danger of being spoiled by high voltage reaching the electronic circuit of your laptop through electrical wires or Internet cable. All this happens if the wire picks up electricity from lightening during thunderstorm or rain. But it is very rare. However safety factor can be increased if you run Laptop on battery and Internet through wireless. In this situation too wireless router can get burnt if you are unlucky.

If it's plugged into the wall I would unplug it. Other than that it should be ok. They say you shouldn't talk on the phone during lightning, but I don't think that a wireless connection would be dangerous at all.

I do, but if you have it in the wall you might want to get a decent surge protector. But if you dont have it plugged in you will be fine.
