my copy seems to be running bug free....no major letdowns yet.
wasn't happy about learning a new op sys but I'm convinced the entire system is running smoother than ever
Everyone says "major failures"...but they don't actualy specify anything? I honestly haven't had any problems other than getting an updated driver for my cell phone
PS...It costs a lot? Hmmmm. I got my disc and activation workaround on dc++....cost me 20 seconds to queue it up and 1 blank dvd disc

i recently purchased a new laptop which had Vista Home already installed. i was not too happy about it myself due to all the horrible reviews by incompatent lacky tech-fiends and i believed them. When i saw the promo on display, i fooled around w/ it for a while and thought that it was sort of nice eye-candy. It reminded me a lot of a cross between Ubuntu and Mac OS X. It was very nice to look at, i will admit.
i decided that since it technically "had" everything i essentially needed on a system, i decided to grab it and take it home.
First thing i did was enjoy the very presentable installation process. It was very pretty to look at and i was actually some what impressed. Then after that was done, i logged on and decided that i wanted to check for updates on my devices and install Firefox, Zonealarm and my copy of F-Secure. Well, first things first w/ that next step.
i wasn't able to figure out how the hell to connect to my wireless connection. For some reason, i wasn't able to connect. I went through every troubleshooting technique i could think of and still nothing. i even went as far as too remove any encryption and had the network open; yes i know it was ballsy, but i was actually desperate. i left that bad review to the possiblitiy that the driver for the wi-fi was messed up or something. i figured it wasn't necssarily Vista's fault. i let that one slide.
Next i wanted to install my GPS software on the laptop. Well, the installation CD apparently is not supported by Vista. Some comment on how it does feature the correct "something" or another in order to install on to my computer. It was telling me NO. That little **** face!!! i was pissed. i think tried to install a lot of my common softwares; i.e. NewsRover, QuickPar, WinRar, PGP and a few other necesseties. i was PISSED when every single one of them wouldn't install. i figured it was because the programs haven't been updated w/ a Vista binary, so i left that alone. So, now i had a $1500 laptop that i couldn't use and a bunch of deprived bandwidth.
So, i decided to go ahead and just fool around w/ the default features and see what was so "nice" about it other then it's pretty interface.
Well, when i saw that i could add a widget that displayed my CPU and RAM reports in real time, i thought that was a nice feature. So i enabled it and saw that my CPU was ideling at 12%, not bad i suppose but when i saw the RAM - it was ideling at 78% and that's cause i had NOTHING open. i was shocked as heck when i saw that. i had a 1GB stick in my laptop and i was using 78 ******* percent of my resources while it was just ideling. i was PISSED!!!
Last thing i did after that, was march straight back to the store and returned my laptop. It was VERY amusing and satisfiying to see that behind the shelf where the customer service guy was at, were over 30+ other laptops and new PC's that returned in just that one day. i asked the guy why there were all returned - and like something out of a 80's comedy, we both said it at the same time, "Because of Vista, man..."
Hope that tells you enough about it.
Enjoy and stay safe!!! :-x

Haha...almost everything in Windows Vista is a failure at this point. It shows great potential but until Microsoft fixes its MANY errors, it won't be worth the insane price you pay to get it.

I find Windows XP with Zone-Alarm fire wall. And a anti-virus (both free editions) to be more secure. And faster! There is a reason XP has been the longest running edition of windows. 5 years its the best.
You want eye candy get vista-You want a die hard tank get XP

It is a failure itself.
What exactly is new, except the shiny interface and better(?) security?
And those stupid annoying security pop ups don't help either.
And it slows down your computer like nothing else.
