"This popular dance of grace and balance comes from Lubang Island, Mindoro in the Visayas region. The term pandango comes from the Spanish word fandango, which is a dance characterized by lively steps and clapping that varies in rhythm in 3/4 time. This particular pandango involves the presence of three candles balanced on the head and the back of each hand."

I'm still confused. The "fandango" is an old dance native to Mexico and Spain and probably originated in the Phoenecian area. The Pandango sa Ilaw originated from the Spanish Fandango which was brought by the Spaniards during the colonization of Filipinas starting the 15th century. First settlers choose the Cebu area, the Manila area, the Ilocos area and most of the part of Laguna, Quezon and Cavite, Bulacan. How then a native Spanish dance called Fandango evolved into a Filipino Dance somewhere in an island called Mindoro where hardly traces of Spanish Heritage is present?

Pandanggo sa Ilaw - The word pandanggo comes from the Spanish dance “fandango”characterized with lively steps and clapping while following a varying ¾ beat. Pandanggo requires excellent balancing skill to maintain the stability of three tinggoy, or oil lamps, placed on head and at the back of each hand. This famous dance of grace and balance originated from Lubang Island, Mindoro.
