Adventure- Final Fantasy XII, Drakengaurd 2 (basically all Square Enix games)
Shooter- Final Fantasy VII DOC
Slasher- Dynasty warriors, Onimusha
War- Viet Cong, Battlefield 2
Horror- Resident Evil, Castlevania
Racing- Need for Speed Most Wanted, Need for Speed Carbon, Ridge Racer
Sports- Soccer- Pro Evolution Soccer, Fifa07
Football- NRL 07
Basketball- NBA 2k7
NFL-Madden 07
Wrestling- Smackdown vs RAw 2007

And one of my all time favourites- Time Splitters: Future Perfect. Dunno what category it goes in (in think Shooter/Adventure/Horror/War) but its multiplayable and has hours of gameplays that will make you burst in laughter.

RPG can do best at that range of ages, try the Suikoden sereies (1,2,3,4,5) and Final Fanatsy ( 1 - 12 ) its good games

PS...can you be any more specific? you mean the out dated "playstation"? or playstation 2 or what? and it depends on what you mean by the best, if you want blood, gore, or lack there of.
