They have all the same rights as any U.S. citizen does. Why should their occupation or income make a difference? As long as we're not talking about the Paris Hilton or Britney Spears-type here I see nothing wrong with having a celebrity in office... But yes I will say I think the typical celeb in office would be a complete disaster. So many of them let all that fame go to their head and just lose all common sense. Or so it appears that way in the media. Who really knows.

They should be allowed because they are citizens of the country. Every citizen has the right to run for office. Are they fit to hold office ? That depends. So are some aren't. Do they get a leg up because people are somewhat familiar with them before millions of dollars are spent to get the public to know them ? Yes. Is that wrong ? Well is it wrong to be the smartest person in your class ? Be the best looking person in your school or company ? That's life. Once again, it is not the celebrity or popularity that should be considered when voting, it should be the qualifications and abilities to discharge the duties required by the office,

Anyone should be allowed to run in an election. They will only be elected if they are have good ideas, and are thought highly by the voters. The reason that celebrities often run in elections is because it's not cheap to run a campaign. Actually, anyone who is wealthy, and can afford to run a campaign, will have a chance to be elected.

Why should ANY citizen be allowed to run for elections? Celebs ARE citizens and as such they have every right to run for public office. (Reagan, Swrtzenegger, Bono) And Clint Eastwood was a damn good Mayor in Carmel, CA.

Because as citizens they have the right. Every now and then a celebrity has a good idea, also. Just not as many as normal people.

why should they not be, (assuming they are legal citizens and qualified to run) they have the same rights as anyone else. Most cel / pop are as if not more intellegent then a lot of the public.
