Statistically speaking rape is the most under reported of all crimes. In fact, that 41% you speak of may be about 1/10th of the total number of women raped.

Women do not report rape for several reason.
1. fear. they know their attackers and are afraid it will be worse next time.
2. they think they deserved it to happen
3. they think there is a stigma to being raped, and are embarassed and ashamed
4. they think nothing will be done. (look at the media and how high profile rape cases are tried in the media)
5. they think the legal system will "rape" them again.
6. they may not know it is rape. (ie drugs, alcohol, etc...)
7. they are young and afraid of what their parents will say.

Think about it, theyve just had an awful experience and if they report it theyre gonna go through a lot more. Inernal exams arent fun at the best of times, straight after rape theyre a nightmare, similarly having that part of your anatomy photographed, combed etc is such a barrel of laughs, not!!

Well, some are afraid it will happen again, and some are embarassed. Some just don't want to be touched or asked to speak about it, and in many cases, they're raped by someone that they know and care about, and they don't want that person to be in trouble.

From adventure - it somewhat is all the above. whilst people flow by using any style of nerve-racking adventure their minds block out a number of the significant factors. upload this to the actuality that dissimilar offenders choose to persuade the sufferer that it replaced into "their fault" - it brings some lot of misunderstanding. there is the phobia of not being believed, and of having to adventure the humiliation of going over something very painful and private and getting a detrimental reaction. because of fact maximum offenders are somebody the sufferer knows, it extra desirable complicates the sufferer being taken heavily. in specific circumstances the criminal holds a place of capacity over the sufferer. In an occasion of "his/her be conscious against mine", there could nicely be a real worry that the guy who has extra social and economic capacity would be believed. and there is the experience, a minimum of initially, that in case you do not communicate approximately it you will avert a number of the soreness. upload: I rather much forgot to declare that for various genders there could nicely be further problems. women persons run into the examination of their character, rather much like did they "deserve this". additionally they get scrutinized approximately regardless of if or not they did sufficient to "guard themselves from this going on". Neither of those could desire to be the question contained whilst it comes to rape. For adult adult males, they run into the stereotype of "it can't take place to adult adult males". they are in a position to adventure severe humiliation, even in specific circumstances from regulation officers. i've got heard of unlucky thoughts, jointly with a guy who stated to the police that a female raped him and that they laughed at him.

they don't want to relive the event - nor go through the testing to
'prove' the evidence is real

and then if they go thru all that and the defense lawyer gets the
jerk a suspended sentence - was it worth the time and effort?
