The question is this: If the Dixie Chicks are Americans and all Americans have the same freedoms set forth in the constitution, than why are they being outed for expressing their freedom of speech? The way I see it, they made no threts, they voiced no facts, they told no lies. All they are guilty of is voicing their openion. So therefore what is the big deal? I am a very proud American who has a som the the Marine Corp. and a future Son-in-Law in the Coast Guard. I stand firmly in saport of the troops. They all fight for my freedom to think, speak, spray and live the way I want to.

The Dixie Chicks did something unacceptable. They got up on a stage where people paid good money to listen to music. They took advantage of the moment to make a political statement. Now if people want to lay down their money to hear the Dixie Chicks give political speeches that is fine. But people paid to be entertained not brought down.

Secondly, they did this in a foreign country that makes it even more reprehensible. When Americans are performing in foreign countries they should realize that they are representing America and they should avoid any criticism of their country or it's leaders.

Much of their audience is made up of hard working patriotic Americans. What they did alienates those people.

Everyone has the right to free speech. They made their speech with a microphone. The fans are responing with their wallets.

It works both ways.

The Dixie Chicks are a country group, as I am sure you are well aware. By criticizing Bush, they alienated 90% of their fans, maybe more, because country music fans are far and away conservatives who support Bush. The (liberal) media realized that the Dixie Chicks' statement would hurt themselves, so they flew in to their aid. The result was all of country radio boycotting their music, and their album sales died off.

Moral of the story: Don't bite the hand that feeds you!

Now, the Dixie Chicks are on the outside looking in on the Country Music Awards. their sales have tanked, and they will eventually fade into obscurity, no matter how many Grammys the liberal judges for that awards show decide to throw at them.

No big deal, it's not really about them as much as it is aboout the mentality of the vast majority of country fans - they have proven themselves to be supportive of Bush and not of America, hate instead of freedom, stupidity instead of the Constitutional principles... Dixie Chicks have only polarized the situation in such a way that those hicks have now shown their real faces - stupid and proud of it. As you said, it's their right to be that way.

I agree, but to quote Larry the Cable Guy (and I try not to, but he's right here) "They're country music stars. They might as well have gone down to a trailer park and yelled 'Walmart Sucks!'"
