I had two operating systems, win98 and win XP, I format the drive on which win XP existed. Now when I want to start my computer, in the booting menu still the name of win XP exist. How can I remove it from booting menu so that when I start my computer it directly goes to win98 and start without asking "which operating system do you want to start your computer?"
Note: I choose win 98 because of less RAM and processor.

im assuming you installed 98 first and then xp.....xp added a boot.ini file , ntldr , and ntdetect

you will need to go into WINDOWS explorer and from the tools > view menus uncheck the box that says hide system/operating system files and hidden files

deleting the boot.ini file should fix this. it will be found in the C:\ folder

the boot.ini file is not required for 98

Try to find the file boot.ini. Make a backup of the file and then edit this boot.ini file. Delete the os name which u want to not to appear and restarts. It will work. If it is not and showing some error, replace the boot.ini file with one from backup.

right-click my computer and click properties -> advanced tab -> startup and recovery section -> click settings -> there will be a label saying "to edit startup options click edit" press edit button, ur notepad shud open with something similar to the following
[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
d:\bootsect.dos="MS-DOS 7.10" /win95

remove the one u dont want and REMEMBER to set the one u use as the default OS, otherwise next time ur pc wont boot. gud luck, hope this helps u....
