My Rubber plant was about six feet tall. I have been growing it for six years now. Unfortnately, it was to big to carry in by myself during a hard freeze in central florida. Consequently it died. I am so depressed about it. I just recently pruned it. Took all the dead leaves off of it. I'm hoping it will come back. The worst part of it all is my mom gave it to me when it was really small, so needless to say it is very sentimental to me. Please help.

Hello Natural -

I would guess that your rubber tree WILL come back. Figs and those of the same family (such as rubber trees) can become decidious. If the freeze was VERY hard - then I would say the tree would not come back; however, the tree is older (6+ years) which would make the tree hardier than if it was just a sapling.

Dont let the loss of leaves fool you. Once it warms up again it will rebound - in fact, because the nodes of the leaves can also grow new 'stems" it may result in a bushier or taller tree in the long run.

Also, I want to add to the comment above: DO NOT overwater or even fertilize at this point. Wait a month (or so) and until the weather warms up consistently. You will bring about other problems and slow the overall recovery of the tree if you try to spoil it with too much water or plant food.

Dont worry! Be happy!

I had the same delima last spring. Rubber trees are pretty resillient. Cut off the obviously dead branches, love it a lot, there is a good chance it will come back. Water with mild/weak solution of MiracleGro every week. (1/4 tsp per gallon) Cuttings root easily with rooting hormone then directly in potting soil.

Your ficus and african violets are probably not going to make it.

Boston ferns originated in, well, Boston, and survive winter covered in snow.

Saw your previous questions, thought I'd address them all at once.

good luck.

If it's dead it won't come back to life.
