Most times an HSG is done when trying to find causes for infertility which is why it may not be covered by insurance.

Unfortunately, if endometriosis is suspected (some of the symptoms are the kinds of pain you describe in your back and such as around sex) the HSG won't show it. The only way endometriosis shows up is if an outpatient procedure called a laparoscopy is done.

If you are in a lot of pain now ask the office if there's a chance you may be able to come in this week instead.

But as for your insurance company ask them what their policy is on if they will cover for medical necessity. You can usually find this out by talking to a caseworker there at the company.

An HSG is one of the most common diagnostic tests for infertility. Insurance companies are well aware of this and sadly, most insurances will not cover the procedure. Being untruthful with your physician in an attempt to have the procedure covered is considered insurance fraud and both you and the doc. could be in serious trouble. I know that you wouldn't want to be in that situation nor would you want your doctor's reputation and practice to be compromised. I would encourage you to speak with the facility where the hsg would be done and find out if they could set up a payment plan for this testing. Best wishes.

Why do you "feel" like you have a blockage? I had a eptopic pregnancy , it was a tubal and I didn't even feel it, the baby was the size of a grapefruit in my tube and was so close to bursting and I didn't even feel it.. Hey if you want a HSG just tell them you think you might be pregnant. A tubal pregnancy can be deadly, they will have to check.
