Republic of Great Britain would dominate the lifetime of a parliament to the detriment of all other economic and social affairs, and if passed would change virtually every facet of British life beyond recognition. From postage stamps to the names of warships,Banknotes, coins, flags, uniform, every area of political, social, economic, financial, religious and civil life would be transformed, and potentially unleash political forces beyond our control or comprehension.

Britain's constitutional monarchy is one of its greatest strengths as well as one of its greatest attractions. The monarch is detached from party politics in a way no president could be. For years, the existence of a monarchy was the guarantee that no would-be dictator could stage a coup by deploying troops, as the monarch controls the armed services. No latter-day Cromwell could win power by force. We have had no civil war since Cromwell's and much of that is due to having had a constitutional monarchy as a focus of loyalty.
They tell us that all Kings are bad; that God never made a King; and that all Kings are very expensive. But, that all Kings are bad cannot be true: because God himself is one of them; he calls himself King of Kings; which not only shows us he is a King, but he has other Kings under him: he is never called King of Republics. The Scripture calls Kings, the Lord's Anointed; but who ever heard of an anointed Republic?

It is a misconception to imagine that the monarchy exists in the interests of the monarch. It doesn’t. It exists in the interests of the people.

Never, The Royal family is to Britain, as the kilt and bagpipes are to Scotland, Irish whiskey to Ireland, potatoes to Idaho.
Parliament is where the power is but the beauty and pageantry is in the Royal House and the history of a Country.

What a load of scare-mongering nonsense your argument is! Do you know how many countries have successfully dumped their monarchies and become republics? Or have never been monarchies in the first place? Countries witha royal family are in the minority on this planet, and we're doing just fine!
It is absolutely time for the monarchy to go. It's undemocratic and the reason why Britain is the most class-ridden society on earth.
God ditch the Queen. When she dies she's not going upwards.

While I agree with your sentiment - I wouldn't wish to see the monarchy abolished, I think your argument is based on a worst case scenario.
While the Monarch retains control of the armed forces, this is notional, as they have never refused Parliament's call to arms. As for the whole religious aspect consider what happened to Charles I when he used the Divine Rights of Kings as an argument.
I say keep them, because they offer a symbol of modern day Britain with it's dysfunctional - yet strong families, some kids going to war, the fact that they cost less than they bring in in revenue, because they are a focus for the nations that make up the UK, because they offer constancy without tyranny, because of their charitable work as Patrons of any number of charities...

The day we become a ... republic is the day I finally give up on this country and start calling myself a European. It would be the worst thing they ever did - I don't include myself in that because I would never vote a ... republic in.
What the ... republicans fail to realise is that we had a dialliance with being a ... republic (the very word is repugnant to me) once, it didn't work and we brought back our Royalty.

Our Royal Family is the envy of much of the World. Foreign tourists flock here in droves and spend a lot of money buying Royal memorabilia thus helping businesses and keeping people employed. At least our Queen is a wonderful Lady, imagine for instance the alternative--and that's Tony Blair as President. Now who on Earth would come here to see him?

they cant.
All critics of the royals find the weapon of ostracization exercised upon them - at work, they lose their chances for promotions, and their co-workers give them the cold shoulder; their friends no longer seek their company, and even their neighbors leer at them. Thus the would be critics shut up and keep their criticism to themselves.
Its the royals control of the social system in britain thru the power to have critics ostracized, which they ruthlessly exploit and use, by means that have been accomplished by brainwashing from birth to inculcate in the minds of all brits that they are necessary to the emotional lives of brits, those stuff shirted characters that dont seem to get excited about anything, except the royals whose brainwashing brings that about.
This stuff about tourist money coming in has some truth but who gets the money from that source? The royals themselves who sell themselves by memorabilia and their prostituted entourage who run the businesses that get the money. Its all headed in one direction, and not to the british people.
Thats why brits cant get rid of them.
Thats why the royals keepone hand in every brits pocket, the other over ever brits mouth
Thats how they control the social system and preserve their privileges and immunity from all wrongdoing
