I use my laptop like a desktop, it never gets turned off, I just set the monitor to shut off after 30 minutes, or you can set it to go to system standby, thats my only suggestion.
As for battery, you need to cycle the battery at least once a month, unplug the cord and let it drain completely, then plug it back in, and your battery will last much longer....

Right click desktop, click properties, click screen saver, then click on power.

I have my power scheme set to always on, then set whether you want to computer to go into standby after a certain amout of time, or just turn off the monitor....either way will be fine..

Hope this works for ya!

Well If you never plan on using the battery then its fine to leave it plugged in all the time. The funny thing about batteries is that they need conditioning and this is done by using them down once in a while and then recharging them. .
1) Its wear and tear on your AC adapter. (They tend to run hot and leaving them on will surely shorten their life cycle). Most AC Adapters cost 10% of what the computer retails for to replace
2) If you take your laptop out often and use battery power than its fine to leave it plugged in when your at home. That way its always fully charged when your ready to go.

From what i heard it's not very good to have your laptop plugged in all the time. It's battery is like the cellphone battery... it's meant to be used and then recharged. And also your ac adapter will die soon if you keep it plugged in all the time

they say a desktop when kept on works better...but with a laptop if ur not usin it theres no point keepin it on cause it kills the battery life...so yeah dont do it.. i own a laptop and if i can help it i turn it off if im not using it...and if the battery needs charging do it when ur actually using it.... also if ur home use a power outlet ....gives the battery a longer life !
