You can leave traditional prints (oils) which are generally shown in movies and are reveled with powder application(s).

You can leave heat prints, which are visible only as long as the heat is present.

You can leave "Touch DNA" which does not even need to be a fingerprint. It can be any presence of your skin/hair/sweat in micro size and quantity to detect 99.99% identity formation.

Fingerprints are generally left when you touch something especially plastic or glass articles and even polished wood.
