no, that is probably not possible in SF. You might be able to share a room with someone else and pay about that much but not by yourself. For a 1 bedroom apt, you are looking about to pay at least $1500/month. Search craigslist.com for people looking for room/house mates and that can lower your cost. good luck!

I don't think it is possible to find a place of any kind in SF for $800. Average rent for a studio or 1 bedroom in a decent area would be at least $1500

Probably not unless you search high and low. You might be able to find a studio for around $1,000 or a 1 bedroom for $1,200 if your lucky. It might not be in the best part of town, but rent in SF is pretty ridiculous. Average for a 1 bedroom is probably in the $1,500-$2,000 range, if not higher.

Corey's right, you could look across the bay. Oakland has safe areas despite its reputation and you may be able to find a 1 bdr. in one of those for $800.

Looking at today's craigslist the only ones I would recommend would be:

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/apa/288940705.html
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/apa/288867541.html

Only one in Oakland was in your price range (there were more, but all in questionable neighborhoods). The others are in San Leandro which is a little farther out but safer. Berkeley's another possibility.

You can but it might take you a while to find something you are satisfied with at that price
