Yesterday my printer stopped printing. It goes through the motion but it does not print with any ink even when the cartridges are full. I have tried re-installing and installing the drivers again but still the same problem. Also tried hooking up another printer to my pc but still the same problem. Can anybody tell me what is wrong here, and how I can fix it.

if it happens with different printers, it's definitely the computer's fault.

i say reinstall the drivers, but you've already tried that.

try going to control panel -> printers and other hardware
and mess around with the settings.

You might want to look in System Info. under Problem Devices. go to Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Information - under "Components" go to Problem Devices. This probably wont tell you everything (or anything) you need to know, but it may help. Also try to uninstall everything related to your printer, and (if it's a USB printer) try to use a different usb port, if you have more than one. If its an IEEE cable (the huge, older type plug). Go to the control panel, go to system, go to hardware, go to Device Manager. Look under "Ports", if you see one that says LPT Printer Port. Right click on it, and select Uninstall. Restart the computer again, and the PC should find and reinstall that port. Then try to hook up the printer once again. I hope this helps!!

I would stop and delete any pending print jobs. Go to your device manager and delete the port that the printer is connected to. IE..If it is a USB port then delete them, if paraell port then delete it. Restart your computer and XP will find them. That should take care of your problem.

To reset the CMOS there is many times a tiny button you prefer to press after removing the battery to empty any residual potential from the workstation. you may attempt looking this and pressing it for some minute after removing the battery, i don't think of in simple terms removing the battery might reset the CMOS.
