When I had my baby they said it would take 8 weeks for the card to come in, its almost been 10 weeks. Is there a number I could call to see if I should have it by now just in case it was lost in the mail. I wouldnt want an illegal citizen to get their hands on it!

They can give you the social security number right after you fill out the paper work. I got my son's number that same day but not the card which i received in the mail 2 weeks later.

Social Security has a toll-free number that operates from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday: 1-800-772-1213. If you have a touch-tone phone, recorded information and services are available 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays.
